Tonight's Dinner: December 2, 2012

We're finally in December!  I spent the day Christmas shopping and decorating the house before we headed out to Oakland to have a birthday dinner for Pau-Pau at Legendary Palace. Oh how I love Legendary.  Mr. Fong ordered a ton of food as usual.  Usually we don't have that many left overs, but tonight we sure did.

Mr. Fong surprised us with giant portions of uni (sea urchin roe).  This is what
they look like before they're opened up. I told the girls that they're like under
water porcupines so that they wouldn't be scared of them since porcupines are
pretty darn cute.

I could only eat one piece.  Nick and I both prefer it with
rice since it's so rich.  The flavor of uni with wine though,
is scrumptious.

This is Nick's favorite.

Salt and Pepper crab.  I ate sooo much of this once everyone else was full.

Tofu with fish head.  Mr. Fong ordered a 6.4lb fish for us.  The head went into
this dish.

Combination gien mein for the girls, but I love this stuff too.

Double tofu, another of Nick's favorites.  There is a scallop tofu under the brown
sauce.

Dauw mew.  Some sort of green with garlic.  This is my favorite, but I don't know
what it is called in English.

Our 6.4lb fish.  I tried some and it was quite good.  I just don't enjoy fish as much
as everyone else so I was chowing down on other stuff. I'm pretty sure that I had
half the plate of dauw mew by myself.

Longevity noodles for Pau-Pau's birthday.

We also got this giant bun that is supposed to be special for birthdays.  I'm
not sure what the significance is of this bun, but it was huge.  Under it there
are more little buns.  The bread is like what you would get on a pork bun, but had
the sweet sesame paste like what you get in sesame balls.

Pau-Pau looks like she's trying to figure out what we're going
to do with all the buns.

I'm not a big fan of the sheet around the Christmas tree, but
we have to prop up our tree on a box because it's only three
feet tall.  Last year I thought the tree was cute when I bought it.
Now I'm wishing that I would have gotten a regular sized tree.
By the time big gifts get put around the tree, it all but disappears.
Since it's on a box, a traditional tree skirt would not look right.
Plus, the skirt is probably bigger than  my mini tree.  Once we
get a house I'll get a bigger one, but  for now this is a good size
 for our living room.
