Day 2: Formula 1 Qualifying Day

Today we were up even earlier than yesterday to get to the track to buy all of our merchandise.   It was actually still dark when Nick had me up and walking to the bus stop.  All I have to say is that it's a good thing that there is such a thing as coffee.  Despite waking up so early, there was still a massive line in the souvenir tent.  They had plenty of team specific merchandise stalls, but only one tent for the Circuit of the Americas.  I know that we could have just bought all of our stuff online, but it's not the same as actually getting it on the track. So we waited. And waited.

After we finally got all of our stuff, we had "breakfast tacos" made of eggs, bacon and waffels from one of the food trucks then met up with an old car photography friend of Nick's who had made his way out to Austin from San Diego.  We sat with his friend for a little while before heading to our seats to watch the qualifying races.  I found this portion to be rather boring.  It was an hour long and the racers go round and round trying to make the fastest lap.  Nick, however, was enthralled.
